Reflecting on a joy-filled evening

Last week I taught a class with my friend Kamilah.

We titled it “Fruitery and Jewelry”
Participants made dragon fruit studs out of polymer clay and then proceeded to make their choice of strawberry or watermelon earrings. They could decide if they wanted dangles or studs. We even decorated the room and we both wore matching fruit inspired Hawaiian shirts. The second half included Kamilah teaching everyone how to make art out of fruit. We cut into juicy strawberries and carved them into roses. We worked with oranges and kiwi fruit as well.
I felt so energized and happy leading up to it unlike so many times if I had to set up for a show which almost always had some level of dread trickle into my thoughts. Sometimes it was more profound than others, but I would plow through and try and smile my way to get to the end of the show. This was not the case, I was happy and even leading up to the event, I kept hearing...I can't wait. I felt the same way.
It was my first time teaching polymer clay and there were some challenges but the over all experience was joy-filled and fun. I really enjoyed working with someone on this event. We were a team. I really appreciate that. I've always felt like a lone wolf and want more connection, more team work. I hope to do more this type of work.
What types of art events do you like to attend? What did you make?
